Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has revealed on the Football Daily YouTube channel that he has a big worry about Manchester United target Ibrahim Sangare.
It seems very clear that Man United and Erik ten Hag want to add some more power to their midfield this summer, with links to Frenkie de Jong refusing to go away, while they have also been tipped with a move for Ivory Coast international Sangare.
They aren’t alone in their pursuit of Sangare, however, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United also seeing their names linked, and with a release clause of just £30m, it’s no surprise that so many clubs, including Man United, are looking at the midfielder.
Thomlinson, however, believes that Sangare could be too ‘immobile’ for the Premier League and the Red Devils.
Who would you rather Man United signed?
Sangare!
De Jong!
He said: “I do think he is in the mould of the player we need. United need a defensive midfielder and at €35m, I wouldn’t be averse to it, I think he’s a good player. But is he that X-factor DM?
“Sangare might come in and be that guy; I think it would be a good signing to get Sangare through the door at €35m. But I don’t know, can translate the form we’ve seen in Ligue 1 and the Eredivisie to the Premier League?
“And secondly, he’s extremely immobile, he’s a big old unit.”
TIF Thoughts on Sangare…
At 24 years of age, Sangare has established himself as a regular in the PSV Eindhoven side as well as a constant fixture within the international setup since the end of 2020, missing just three games since November of that year.
While bringing in someone who’s only got 174 senior first-team appearances under his belt in top-flight leagues could be a very big risk for Man United, Ten Hag will have seen an awful lot of Sangare during his time managing Ajax, so he’d very likely know what he’s like and whether his strengths could be a big help for the Red Devils.
