Manchester United are definitely interested in Ajax’s Antony this summer, with some sources suggesting they’d be surprised if he didn’t arrive at Old Trafford.

This has been suggested by TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, who has been speaking live on air about the Red Devils’ interest in the Brazilian.

It is believed United were showing an interest in bolstering their attack with Darwin Nunez, however, having seemingly missed out to rivals Liverpool, attention may be switching to other options.

The £31.5m-rated Ajax max operates from out wide and had made a reasonable impression on Ajax’s 2021/22 campaign with eight goals and four assists in his 23 Eredivisie appearances.

Reports from Italy (via GIFN) have suggested there is also interest coming from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, but Crook expects United to push for the 22-year-old.

“I think United are definitely in for Antony.

“There’s been talk of a £40m bid going in for him. Certainly, my sources at United haven’t distanced themselves from those rumours, so I think Antony is a target.

“In fact, I’ve had a text from somebody else saying, ‘if he doesn’t become a Manchester United player this summer, I would be surprised’.

“I think, at the moment, him and Frenkie de Jong look like two definite arrivals at Manchester United and two players that Ten Hag clearly trusts and believes he can get the best out of.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Antony is clearly a player who Erik ten Hag will be familiar with, having managed the Brazilian for 79 games which provided a return of 42 goal involvements (via Transfermarkt).

And you would think Crook’s comments would clearly suggest this is a player the Dutch manager believes could improve his current options at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho both endured difficult campaigns for United, so you could see why Ten Hag may be hoping to add some creativity from out wide.
