Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Leicester City might be prepared to offer Youri Tielemans a new contract with the club this summer.

There were previous reports stating that Premier League side Arsenal were keen on luring Youri Tielemans away from Leicester City this summer, but it was important for the player that the side he was joining had Champions League football to contend with next campaign.

Tielemans has just one year remaining on his current contract with the Foxes, and the Gunners have reportedly slowed down on proceedings, so Brenden Rodgers might opt to look for another suitor or offer him a new deal.

With Arsenal’s interest in Tielemans decreasing, Crook spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that the longer the saga goes on, the more he will expect the Belgian midfielder to stay at Leicester.

“There’s talk they might give him a new contract with the same money that Arsenal were offering, maybe with a release clause in there as well.

“So the longer this one drags on, it has gone quiet, the more I expect him to stay at Leicester, which is good news for them,” Crook said.

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Leicester City finished eighth in the Premier League last season, which was three positions lower than the season prior, and Tielemans had expressed his interest to play in the Champions League, so when the club club interested in him (Arsenal) failed to qualify for the competition, this put a halt on his exit.

Spurs were another club interested in the Belgian’s services, but they announced the signing of Yves Bissouma, who occupies the same position so it is now likely that they will continue their interest.

However, if Tielemans was offered a new deal with the club, with perhaps a release clause that if a club came in for him then they could talk straight to the player, then this might cause his performances to increase because he might be happy with the situation, rather than last season when his future was up in the air.
