Presenter and Leeds United fan Joe Wainman has claimed that Tyler Adams would be the perfect replacement for Kalvin Phillips, who could be heading for Manchester City.

There have been reports stating that the Premier League champions are close to signing Leeds midfielder Phillips, and the English international has reportedly told the Whites that he wishes to join the Manchester club.

Adams made a total of 24 appearances for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season and has been linked with a move to Leeds, with Jesse Marsch having worked with the 23-year-old in the early stages of the last campaign before he was sacked.

With the potential departure of Phillips from Elland Road, Wainman has claimed whilst speaking on the JustJoe Football Show on YouTube that Adams could be the ready-made replacement for him, after impressing in Germany this season.

Wainman said: “He is seen by the club and many people as the perfect replacement for Kalvin Phillips. If Kalvin does move to City – which we all believe he will – then Tyler is his ready-made replacement.”

TIF Thoughts on Wainman’s comments…

It would be a massive loss if Phillips was to leave Leeds in the summer, as his absence during parts of last season had a huge impact on the side, and his return coincided with the Whites scraping Premier League survival on the final day of the season.

However, if Leeds can get a significant fee for their star midfielder, Marsch will be able to use the funds to invest in a new midfielder and other areas of the squad that need upgrading – and he could bring in players he knows.

Adams is just 23 years old and played a big role for Leipzig last season in the Bundesliga, so Marsch could use the connection that he has with the club and the player to convince him to come over to England, where he could be a good replacement for Phillips if Wainman’s hunch is correct.
