Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Takumi Minamino is someone who is still being pursued by Leeds United ahead of the summer transfer window.

It had been reported that Minamino was on the radar of Leeds United, with Jesse Marsch having worked with the 27-year-old in the past.

However, the Whites face competition for his signature, as other Premier League clubs such as Wolves and Southampton are also keeping tabs on him.

The Japanese winger has been nothing short of an outcast for Liverpool in the past season, as he made 11 appearances in the top flight and just one of those was from the start.

With the lack of game time given to Minamino last season under Jurgen Klopp, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he is definitely someone who Leeds are pursuing.

Discussing Leeds links to Minamino and Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien, Jones said: “Definitely still on the table, both of those players. Obviously, I think the issue with Minamino is always the potential that Liverpool look to work him into another deal that helps them replace Mane if he ends up going, so that’s probably one fear on that side of things.

“But Lewis O’Brien and Minamino are definitely still players being pursued.”

Do you think Minamino would do well at Leeds?

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Pr3eviously labelled a ‘machine‘ by his manager, Minamino did not feature heavily in the most recent season for Liverpool, in the short spells he had on the pitch, he averaged a goal every 61 minutes. So, his lack of minutes could be seen to be down to the quality of his competition rather than his individual ability.

Leeds struggled in 2021/22, as they only just managed to scrape survival in the Premier League on the final day of the season. In an attacking sense, only one side apart from the bottom three scored fewer than their 42 goals in the league, so Marsch will likely want to upgrade his attack in the summer, and Minamino could be a good option.
