Image for Aston Villa: Image shows huge error made by Paul Tierney on Thursday

Aston Villa may feel slightly fortunate to have been let off on Thursday night by referee Paul Tierney after an image surfaced on social media following the game.

Steven Gerrard’s men were forced to settle for a point against the relegation-battling Burnley having come from behind after the visitors took a lead into the break.

Were Villa lucky to get away with this?

However, they may have been fortunate to see their goal from Emiliano Buendia not chalked off as an image shows Matty Cash’s foul throw in the lead-up to the goal.

The draw leaves Villa going into the final day of the season on Sunday with very little to play for with a lot of results needing to go in their favour to clinch a top-half finish.

But it does seem talkSPORT feel Gerrard’s men may have been fortunate to walk away with a point on Thursday with one of Cash’s feet well over the line when taking the throw-in.

TIF Thoughts on the image…

There is definitely evidence in the image to suggest perhaps the goal should not have stood with Cash quite literally overstepping the line.

We are sure there’ll be no complaints from the Villa camp with a definite frustration coming from the first half with Ashley Barnes unpunished for an alleged elbow on Tyrone Mings.

To rub salt in the wound, it was Barnes who scored the penalty for Burnley having caught Mings earlier in the game which was not punished by Tierney or VAR.
