Luke Edwards has dismissed talk of Jose Mourinho replacing Eddie Howe this summer at Newcastle United while speaking on BBC Radio Newcastle on Tuesday night.

The Magpies have experienced a stunning turnaround in form since Howe replaced former manager Steve Bruce and was allowed to add a few players to his squad, with The Chronicle revealing that had Howe been in charge all season and picked up points at the rate he has done since taking over, they’d be joint-seventh.

Who would you rather have as NUFC manager?

Howe!

Howe!

Mourinho!

Mourinho!

Despite Howe doing an incredible job to get Newcastle in a place where they’re heading into the final day of the season with the ability to finish in the top half, that hasn’t stopped reports claiming that PIF are looking to bring in Jose Mourinho to replace their current boss in the summer.

However, Edwards has shut down these reports very strongly.

He said: “Jose Mourinho might want the Newcastle job, and I’m not going to sit here tonight and say that Jose Mourinho will never be Newcastle manager, because I think he genuinely would like the job because of his affiliation, his affection for Bobby Robson, but that isn’t happening this summer – and let’s just get rid of those stories, it doesn’t do my industry any good.”

TIF Thoughts on the Mourinho links…

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

It would be absolute madness from PIF if they were to remove Eddie Howe and replace him with Mourinho, especially judging by how the owners acted with the manager and how the boss himself was while doing a lap of appreciation at St James’ Park on Monday evening.

Howe has already been talking about the summer and the transfer window that comes with it, so for PIF to then replace him with a manager who has already confirmed he will be staying with Roma next season would be an almighty turn of events.
