Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold is hoping the north London club do not sell Joe Rodon in the summer transfer window.

The Spurs reporter was speaking about Rodon’s future on his YouTube channel, with reports suggesting the defender is set to leave this summer.

What do you want Spurs to do with Rodon?

It has been a difficult spell for the 24-year-old, who made the move to Spurs back in the summer window of 2020, but has found game time extremely difficult to come by.

Despite being at the club for around two seasons now, the Welshman has just 24 appearances to his name, with only 165 minutes of action under Antonio Conte following his arrival in November.

The January window saw Rodon heavily linked with a potential departure and it is apparent Gold fears he may be sold this summer.

Gold said: “He showed just a brilliant commitment [on Sunday] to everything Tottenham, when, you know, you could maybe forgive him with just thinking ‘stuff you’ because of the way he’s played so few minutes this season. But he didn’t, and that shows the professionalism of the guy, I think, as well.

“And do you know what, I’ve said this enough times – I think he’s going to be a really good Premier League defender. I think he will.

“I just hope, hope it’s a loan in the summer. I hope it’s a loan to a Premier League club, because I think he’s going to come back and I think Spurs will look at him and think ‘do you know what, yeah, that’s the Joe Rodon we signed. He’s gone out there and done very well’.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We have to agree with Gold. Despite barely playing for Spurs, Rodon continues to start for Wales on international duty and has played every minute of their last five World Cup qualifiers. Jermaine Jenas even praised the central defender for his international display in March as he called him ‘different class’.

So it does feel slightly odd to see Rodon failing to break into the Spurs side on a consistent basis, and having not played regularly in the Premier League, he does still feel like an unknown quantity.

With three years remaining on his Spurs deal, we agree with Gold and feel sending him out on loan would be the best option as it would give them the potential to review his top-flight credentials without forcing him into the Spurs XI.
