A number of Everton fans will be fuming after hearing Jamie Carragher dismiss their claims for a penalty in their most recent game.

In their last outing, the Toffees fell to a dramatic 3-2 home defeat against Brentford. The game, however, was marred by controversy.

Indeed, a red card to Jarrad Branthwaite was a turning point in the game and that dismissal came only moments after the hosts could have had a penalty for a shirt pull on Richarlison.

Was the shirt pull on Richarlison enough to be a foul?

Highlighting the incident on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher claimed: “I don’t think it’s a penalty.”

He went on to say that it looked worse in slow motion and people are only making a big deal of it because of what happened at the other end of the pitch so soon after.

TIF Thoughts on Everton and the penalty…

No doubt, a collection of Everton fans will disagree with Carragher, taking note of the clear shirt tug on Richarlison that the pundit doesn’t even deny.

Frank Lampard certainly didn’t feel it was the right call. He told BBC Sport his side had been ‘on the wrong end of a lot of bad decisions this season’, while adding of that particular moment: “When you see that shirt pull [on Richarlison], that’s a foul anywhere on the pitch.”

Due to the defeat, Everton are stuck just two points above Burnley in the relegation zone and could well go down at the end of the season. However, they do have a game in hand over rivals Leeds United, who sit one point and once place below them.
