Tottenham Hotspur defender, Sergio Reguilon, has picked up a groin issue which kept him out of action on the weekend’s draw.

This is according to the reliable Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold who was speaking on his YouTube channel following the game against Brentford.

Do Spurs need a better LWB this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Spanish left wing-back was dropped to the bench for the game against the Bees but Gold claimed Antonio Conte had put the absence down to a groin injury.

Ryan Sessegnon played instead of the Spaniard, however, it was apparent he did not impress in what was his own return from injury.

Gold awarded Sessegnon with just a 4/10 rating after the game as Conte withdrew the 21-year-old for Davinson Sanchez in the second half.

With five games remaining of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, it seems Conte could well have a selection headache on his hands with Reguilon’s issue:

(5:00) “We’re told, or Conte said, that Reguilon had a groin pain that he had been dealing with. My gut tells me I think Sessegnon probably would have come in any way. That may be just, you know, he’s saying that to kind of not save face for Reguilon but, you know, I suppose he is, exactly that, I guess.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Spurs already received a recent setback for Oliver Skipp, so things don’t look good on the injury front.

Injuries will not be what anyone at Spurs will have been hoping for amid their run-in with a spot in next season’s Champions League on the line.

However, this does raise one of the issues at Spurs currently with Reguilon struggling against Brighton & Hove Albion in the game prior.

With Gold expecting Reguilon to be dropped for the game against Brentford anyway, Sessegnon was unable to take his opportunity in the side and it really hampered Conte’s side.

Regardless of whether Spurs qualify for the Champions League, we think the recent issues Conte has had at left wing-back with injuries and poor displays may make him consider it a position to address in the summer.
