Tottenham Hotspur could find themselves in a sticky situation at the end of the season over the sale of Dele Alli earlier this year.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge spoke to This Is Futbol and raised his concerns over the possibility of Spurs losing out on millions if Dele is to leave Everton in the summer.

Will Spurs finish in the top four?

The 25-year-old midfielder left north London in January for Everton in a deal which initially cost the Toffees nothing – with the possibility of the deal rising to £40m.

However, there will need to be certain requirements met for Everton to pay up for the former Englishman which would leave Tottenham in an awkward spot if the Toffees were to go down.

Bridge believes if Frank Lampard’s side were to find themselves relegated to the Championship, Dele could leave on a free which would end any hopes of Spurs seeing a return on Dele’s departure:

He’s not even coming on. And if Everton went down, he’d leave them on a free and Tottenham are screwed. So I don’t know what’s gonna happen with him. I really don’t. I don’t even know what Everton are going to do with him.”

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

This will certainly be a concern to Spurs with Everton still sitting dangerously close to the bottom three but Dele’s lack of game time will also be a concern.

Having made the move north in January, Dele has made six appearances in the Premier League, started zero of those games and not featured in any of the last four outings (via Transfermarkt).

So not only do Spurs face the risk of Dele leaving on a free but they also are currently struggling to see their former play come close to matching any of the performance-based requirements.
