Journalist Ryan McGinlay has stated that Celtic winger James Forrest may be at the end of his time with the club.

Over the weekend, the winger came off the bench at Hampden Park with the game level and heading to extra time. Unfortunately, for the Bhoys, he could not do enough as his side fell to defeat as Carl Starfelt’s 114th-minute own goal settled the Old Firm.

While some fans may point to questionable refereeing decisions when looking for a reason to explain the defeat, McGinlay came to a deeper conclusion of his own after the final whistle.

Will James Forrest be at Celtic next season?

Indeed, he took to Twitter to share a GIF of Forrest unable to keep up with the Rangers attack as Ryan Kent and Calvin Bassey stormed forward to set up the winning goal.

He also added the comment: “Sadly, I think Forrest’s race is run at Celtic.”

TIF Thoughts on James Forrest and Celtic…

Up to this point in the season, the £5.4m-rated Forrest has made 29 appearances but hasn’t made a huge contribution, with just four goals and four assists.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t managed to impress away from his goalscoring output either, averaging a SofaScore match rating of just 6.68 over the last 12 months in his career. He was also the lowest-ranked Celtic player on the BBC player ratings after the Old Firm, with fans handing him a score of 3.18.

Now in his 30s, Forrest will enter the final year of his contract this summer. After this underwhelming season, it’s easy to see why McGinlay feels his ‘race is run’.
