Celtic are likely to finalise a deal for the permanent transfer of American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers ahead of next season.

This is according to reliable Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold, who was speaking on his latest Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast.

Is Carter-Vickers worth £6m?

Carter-Vickers is currently set to return to the north London club at the end of the campaign when his loan deal expires, however, there is a feeling the Bhoys will make his move permanent.

There is a belief the Parkhead side have the option to buy the 24-year-old in a deal that is reportedly worth around £6m and potentially rising to as high as £10m.

And speaking after the American’s heroics in their Old Firm derby victory at the weekend, Gold insisted he sees the centre-back’s future remaining with Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Gold said: “He’s been brilliant at Celtic. He’s been so good, and to score the winner in an Old Firm derby is ridiculous. Like, essentially, you get legend status pretty much already with that.

“And yeah, like you say, £6m kind of upfront with rising to £10m. I think the deal will get done, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t. I think why wouldn’t Carter-Vickers want to stay there?”

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

This is a bit of a change of heart from Gold, as a couple of weeks ago, he was mentioning all the Premier League interest that Carter-Vickers will be getting, but now he’s changed his tune to suggest he will sign at Celtic.

We think this will come to the delight of the Celtic fans, who have seen Carter-Vickers become a mainstay in Postecoglou’s plans, with 27 Premiership appearances to his name.

And the American has not only helped to solidify their defence, which has seen Celtic climb to the top of the table, but he has also provided some important goals – including the winner against Rangers.

Having made such a big impact on the Parkhead side, we think it would be fairly disastrous to see Carter-Vickers depart with the centre-back reportedly available for just £6m.
