Celtic are likely to face some serious competition in the summer to conclude the permanent signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

This is according to reliable journalist Alasdair Gold who claims there is a number of Premier League sides with an eye on the American defender.

Do Celtic need to sign CCV permanetly?

Carter-Vickers has been a mainstay in Ange Postecoglou’s XI this season with 26 appearances to his name in the Scottish Premiership alone (via Transfermarkt).

And the Australian manager has made no secret of his desire to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Writing about Carter-Vickers’ brief time at Spurs this season, Gold issued a glowing report on the centre-back’s time at Celtic but revealed his displays have attracted a lot of attention from English clubs:

“Just the one performance from Carter-Vickers before he headed off to Celtic on loan. He had a tough day at the office that evening in Portugal with some nervy moments on the deck and in the air before injuring his ankle late on,” Gold wrote for football.london.

“He’s now making a huge impact for the Glaswegian side and they will face competition from Premier League sides to sign him in the summer.

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

The fact that even Gold states that Premier League sides will be after him doesn’t exactly bode well for Celtic. The pull of English football has been something that’s seen players depart Parkhead in the past, with Virgil Van Dijk, Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard all swapping Scotland for England.

However, the defender has had a taste of English football with many different clubs on his CV and is obviously still contracted to Tottenham Hotspur, so it’s not as if he will feel the urge to go and try English football. And, he has certainly impressed during his time at Celtic and it is clear Postecoglou rates him highly given he has been so heavily involved in the starting XI, so the Hoops do still stand every chance of having him permanently.

However, with interest reportedly coming from the Premier League, could the centre-back’s head be turned with the possibility of being able to prove himself in the English top-flight?

Carter-Vickers has never been able to find a long-term future with regular first-team football at any club across his career, but with Celtic, he has got that and we wonder how much he values the faith Celtic have put in him?
