A Celtic journalist has offered a rather cheeky response to a post that has emerged on social media regarding former player Freddie Ljungberg.

The number 7 is a particularly special number around Celtic Park, indeed it is so important that they have named a restaurant after it.

And much like Newcastle United have their iconic number 9 and Manchester United have their long line of number 7s themselves, it should be seen as something of an honour to wear that number along with the green and white hoops.

However, there have been some players who haven’t quite lived up to the number over the years, with the Swede arguably one of them.

As Celtic user @stephen4_2 posted on Twitter in a throwback post, he was “Another who came to Parkhead for a pension top up”, this forced @digmcghee to point out that Ljungberg still managed to get his name engraved onto the glass of the restaurant alongside the other great players.

This caused journalist @CraigCelt to respond with his own tweet, putting up the stats that Ljungberg put up at Celtic Park, and it didn’t make for great reading, but he certainly saw the funny side:

TIF Thoughts on Craig Celt’s comments about Freddie Ljungberg and Celtic…

Should Celtic retire the #7 shirt?

No

This certainly does seem like something of an oversight from Celtic to include his name in there, especially when you look at the stats and what he wasn’t able to bring to the club in his twilight years after a glowing career beforehand.

Perhaps they should have just left his name, along with a few of the others who didn’t impress off the list.

Current number 7 Giorgos Giakoumakis has certainly contributed a lot more than Ljungberg has so far, but whether or not he’ll end up deserving his place in the restaurant we’ll have to wait to find out.
