Wolves journalist Liam Keen has been talking about the club and what their summer transfer window might look like.

Wolves have certainly not been scared to spend big in past windows, with Transfermarkt noting that since they have been in the top flight following their 2018 promotion, they have spent £332.37m and counting.

And having done very well this season in the first campaign under Bruno Lage, putting themselves within touching distance of making it into Europe for next season, it could well be another big summer ahead as they look to take that next step and become perennial challengers for European football like they were in their first two seasons back in the Premier League.

In what position did Wolves finish in these seasons? Starting off with 2020/21

Speaking on the E&S Wolves podcast, Keen broke down what the window might look like in terms of the money the club would have to spend, but hinted that some of it might be dictated by the players they could be forced to sell along the way.

He said: “It comes down to probably Ruben Neves, doesn’t it? He always feels like the one name that would be sold to reinvest, potentially. [Pedro] Neto is probably another one who’s just signed a deal, of course.

“He has a valuation, of course, Neves – if a deal comes in the club feel is right, he’ll leave, he’ll go, you’d imagine, and that money would then give them more leeway to reinvest.

“As it stands, really, for this summer, they’re gonna be in a better place to spend than they were last summer. And there is money there, there is money there to spend.”

Do you expect Wolves to spend big this summer?

No

Obviously, the club will be a bit better placed this year to spend as they won’t be dealing with the same issues that they have had in previous years when it comes to income restrictions, as well as placing higher in the league than they did last season, barring some disaster in terms of form, which might be where the money that Keen is hinting at would come from.

Hopefully, the club won’t have to sell someone in order to fund the window, as they appear to have got something good going on right now, and perhaps a few tweaks to the squad rather than wholesale changes might be the way for them to go to get back into European competition again.

And the last thing that they would want to do is to break up the squad and potentially lose a key player in the process in order to make it happen.
