Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed Wolverhampton Wanderers may have to cash in on star man Ruben Neves in the summer if they receive an offer they can’t turn down.

Neves signed for Wolves in 2017 from FC Porto for a fee of just over £16 million, after he came through the Portuguese club’s youth academy. However, after making 207 appearances across five seasons in all competitions, the 25-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away from Molineux in the summer.

Wolves have had an impressive season and currently sit eighth in the Premier League, and if they do manage to qualify for the Europa League ahead of next season, then this could be a potential boost to their chances of keeping Neves at the club.

With the claims Neves has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Pete O’Rourke highlighted to GIVEMESPORT that if there is a deal worth a significant amount of money in the summer, then Lage may have to cash in.

“There are fears obviously that Wolves might have to end up cashing in on Neves this summer. He’s been such a good servant to them as well. He’s helped them establish themselves in the Premier League,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s comments…

Ruben Neves has been a standout performer for Wolves since he arrived in England in 2017. His first season was in the Championship, which Wolves went on to win, and Neves was named in the team of the season.

In the previous three seasons in the Premier League, Neves has featured over 35 times in each campaign, so he would be a major loss in the heart of the Wolves midfield if he was to part ways with the club in the summer.

Neves has been a mainstay in the Wolves side in recent seasons, but it may be time for him to take the next step and play in the Champions League next season with the likes of Barcelona believed to be interested.
