Tottenham Hotspur had a day to forget at home, being put to the sword by a ruthless Brighton & Hove Albion side 1-0.

Antonio Conte’s side had no answers for the resolute Brighton team who gave Spurs nothing to work with throughout the game, frustrating the hosts.

Would you like Spurs to sign Nunez?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Leandro Trossard was the match-winner in the 90th minute. He was on hand to poke the ball beyond a helpless Hugo Lloris, securing the three points for Brighton, throwing a major spanner in the works of Spurs’ top-four hopes.

And it was apparent some of the Spurs players were growing frustrated by their lack of intent with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seen venting his anger during the game at Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Journalist Rob Guest noticed the Danish midfielder allowing his frustration to get the better of him as he wrote the following from the N17 press box:

“Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was clearly frustrated by his side’s struggles upfield as midway inside the first half he could be seen waving his arms about due to a lack of options ahead of him, with the player again doing the same on the hour mark as he made his feelings clear to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.”

TIF thoughts on Guest’s comments…

It was a poor display from Conte’s men, however, Hojbjerg seemed to be the standout performer on the day with the midfielder receiving a 7/10 rating from Alasdair Gold.

Hojbjerg being frustrated with the attack is no surprise, especially when looking at the match stats. Spurs only mustered five shots in 90 minutes, failing to get any of them on target, giving Robert Sanchez nothing to worry about.

How many times did Mido score for Spurs in the 2006/07 season?

In contrast, Brighton had over double the number of shots with 12, having five on target themselves, showing they were the bigger threat in front of goal throughout the clash.

The result was certainly a big blow for Spurs, who at full time, held a three-point lead over Arsenal in the table. Thankfully for the Lilywhites, the Gunners also slipped up meaning they still hold a three-point gap to their rivals and Manchester United.
