Oliver Skipp has put pen-to-paper on a new five year deal at Tottenham Hotspur which will see his contractual stay in N17 taken to 2027.

And on the back of the announcement, journalist for The Athletic, Charlie Eccleshare, has claimed there are many within the club who feel the 21-year-old will become a Spurs captain in time.

Will Skipp become a future captain?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Skipp has seen his weekly wage increase massively to a reported figure in excess of £80k-per-week having impressed since his return from a season-long loan with Norwich City.

The midfielder had become a regular in Antonio Conte’s starting XI with the Italian speaking incredibly high of the Spurs academy product.

And after Jose Mourinho’s comments on the youngster showing signs of becoming a captain in the future, Eccleshare claims there are people within the club who also see this as a possibility:

“Looking further ahead, Skipp’s dream is to one day become Spurs captain — a situation many others at the club can envisage. When he signed that new deal in 2020, Mourinho said: “I see this kid being one day a future captain here by his character, by his personality.”

TIF Thoughts on Eccleshare’s comments…

We think this will please a lot of Tottenham fans to hear Skipp has not only committed his future to Spurs but also dreams of taking on that type of responsibility.

It was only a matter of months ago when Skipp returned from his loan spell away from N17 and it appears to have helped him a lot with the midfielder clearly holding big ambitions for the future.

And to hear there are people within the club who feel he can reach those dreams will certainly be a big boost to him and he looks to make a recovery from his niggling injury issue.

Current captain, Hugo Lloris, has recently signed an extension, but could Skipp make the move up to replace the Frenchman in years to come with Harry Kane’s future under speculation?
