Newcastle United broke Leicester City hearts in the dying moments thanks to a brace from the new star on Tyneside, Bruno Guimaraes.

Leicester actually took the lead at St James’ Park, Ademola Lookman scored the opening goal of the game after 19 minutes. Their lead didn’t last long as Bruno Guimaraes managed to level things up just 11 minutes later.

Neither side looked able to find a winner in the second period until Guimaraes nodded home to steal the points for Eddie Howe’s side with 95 minutes on the clock.

The Toon Army were split, however, when Ayoze Perez was subbed off. He was booed by his old fans on Tyneside before the applause for the Spaniard became the more prevalent noise.

Journalist Ciaran Kelly took to Twitter to document the moment: “Ayoze Perez initially roundly booed as he was replaced by James Maddison but this then turns to applause. Not often you see that. #nufc #LEINEW.

TIF thoughts on the reception…

While some former players will always be booed given the nature of their exit, it’s always nice to see players receive a good reception for the service they once provided.

Starting with a relatively recent player. Who is this?

The fact that the applause managed to drown out the boos shows how Perez is thought of at Newcastle, with the majority appreciating everything he did when he used to don the black and white stripes.

He played 195 times in all competitions for the Magpies and found the back of the net 48 times for the Toon, so it was only fitting that the fans showed their appreciation.
