BBC pundit Chris Sutton has slammed Jesse Lingard for wearing gloves in April in a recent Premier League game.

In their last outing, the Red Devils were swept aside with ease by Liverpool, who netted four times with Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane scoring alongside Mo Salah’s double.

That defeat leaves Man United in sixth place, despite having played more games than top-four rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

With that in mind, it’s been a pretty abject season for the club and Sutton suggested that Lingard’s choice to wear gloves on the spring evening summed things up.

He took to Twitter to write: “Jesse Lingard wearing gloves on April 19 maybe sums up Manchester United this season…”

While some Premier League legends such as Thierry Henry are remembered fondly for wearing gloves during matches, it seems Lingard won’t be afforded this luxury.

However, the former Arsenal man may have been wearing his during a colder part of the year – according to the Met Office, the temperature was about 10 degrees during the Liverpool clash.

Regardless of it all, it’s been a pretty bad season for Lingard and United. Indeed, the midfielder has started just twice in the league for his club all season despite their ongoing form issues.

While there are a lot of concerns around the Manchester club at the moment, it remains unclear how wearing gloves will impact their fortunes or how they illustrate their current woes. It seems more a case of kicking United while they’re down and Lingard’s choice of attire being another stick to beat the Red Devils with.
