Arsenal supporters will be feeling pretty upset right now after former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher says they were on the wrong end of some poor officiating recently.
Over the weekend, the Gunners took a huge step in the right direction regarding their top four hopes as they beat Manchester United 3-1 at home.
While claiming the three points was the most important thing, they will be aggrieved that Bruno Fernandes was able to go unpunished despite making a dangerous challenge on one of their players.
Did Bruno Fernandes deserve a red card for his foul in the Arsenal game?
Yes
No
Indeed, the Red Devil seemed to deliberately leave his studs up, and high on the shin, as he arrived extremely late when challenging Nuno Tavares.
Reviewing the incident on Sky Sports (via Football Daily), Gallagher said: “I think it’s a red card because it’s just so late.”
TIF thoughts on Bruno Fernandes and Arsenal…
All though he was lucky to not get sent off, Fernandes still endured a pretty torrid day at the Emirates. Beyond that incident, he also managed to miss a penalty that would have tied the game at 2-2.
As mentioned before, Arsenal fans will mostly be glad to get the three points. Even so, considering Gallagher has now confirmed it should have definitely been a red card, they will be frustrated the call didn’t go their way.
And when you consider that Tavares is the club’s only natural senior left-back available – due to Kieran Tierney’s injury – they will be relived the tackle didn’t do the defender any lasting damage.
Still, when they remember Granit Xhaka was sent off for a similar incident against Manchester City earlier on in the season – though he actually made some contract with the ball, unlike Fernandes – their anger will only grow.
