Journalist Connor Humm has criticised the Arsenal board for having to rely on Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah when both players will be out of contract in the summer.

This January, Mikel Arteta and the club hierarchy allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave permanently. This left the club with just two senior striking options.

The problem is, with the club pushing desperately for a spot in the Champions League next term, Lacazette and Nketiah may not be as motivated as others to reach that goal, as they probably won’t be at the club beyond this summer.

Were Arsenal right to let Aubameyang leave this winter?

Indeed, in a recent interview, the French forward spoke about how he was in discussions with clubs about a future move. He told Canal Plus (via football.london): “I am in discussions with a lot of clubs. I am open. I want to play in Europe, it’s been a long time since I played in the Champions League, I’m missing it.”

This honest admission seemed to frustrate Humm, who took to Twitter to explain his anger at the situation. He wrote: “One of the biggest issues we have is we have two players trying to achieve something that they won’t even get to play a part in.

“Lacazette and Nketiah have no motivation because they’ll be gone in a few months. It’s so poor from the club for them to allow this to happen.”

TIF Thoughts on Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Arsenal…

While it may not be entirely fair to question the commitment or the professionalism of either player, it’s hard to argue that they are proving any doubters wrong with their efforts on the pitch.

Where did Arsenal sign these players from, let's start with an easy one! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Indeed, none of the club’s strikers have performed this season. This much was proven by Squawka recently when they explained that Teemu Pukki has scored 10 Premier League goals for 20th-placed Norwich this season – which is two more than Aubameyang, Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have scored for Arsenal combined.

All in all, it’s clear to understand why Humm is so upset. If the club do not make it into the top four by the end of the season, it’s likely that the club’s goalscoring struggles will be highlighted as a key factor.
