Former Celtic ace Pat Bonner has hailed the Bhoys’ captain, Callum McGregor, for his display on Monday night in the Scottish Cup.

The Bhoys earned themselves a spot in the final four of the competition with a convincing win over Dundee United away from home.

Shortly after the game, it was confirmed Ange Postecoglou’s side would face their city rivals, Rangers, to earn their spot in the final against either Hearts or Hibernian.

And it was the captain who got the Hoops up and running at Tannadice Park with the opening goal of the evening as they strolled to a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The goal on Monday night was just McGregor’s fourth goal of the campaign across all competitions, but it was apparent the midfielder impressed Bonner who was speaking on BBC Sportsound:

“I think Callum McGregor was the best player on the pitch. He controlled it well for Celtic, he was always looking for the ball,” said Bonner.

TIF Thoughts on Bonner’s comments…

It was Giorgos Giakoumakis who will have stolen the headlines at Tannadice Park having found the back of the net twice in the second half to confirm the victory.

However, Bonner’s comments goes to show just how much of an influence McGregor has on Postecoglou’s side at a time where Reo Hatate is struggling to find his best form.

The Bhoys cruised into the final four, but it was certainly an impressive display from McGregor who will have eased any tension among the travelling fans inside 12 minutes.
