Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Francisco Trincao has struggled of late to find a regular spot in Bruno Lage’s XI as his loan deal nears its conclusion.
The Barcelona ace has only featured for an hours worth of Premier League action across the last four games for the Wanderers having mainly watched on from the bench (via Transfermarkt).
Should Wolves sign Trincao permanently?
Yes
No
And it certainly has been a rude awakening to life outside of La Liga for the 22-year-old who has struggled to find his feet in the English top-flight with no goals or assists across his 20 league appearances.
The 22-year-old’s only goal involvement came in the EFL Cup with a goal in the second round against Nottingham Forest back in the early stages of his spell at Molineux.
However, he does appear to have a couple of rather interesting stats.
Nutmegs
Wolverhampton Wanderers ace Trincao has recorded the fourth-most nutmegs across all the players in the top five leagues this season with 13.
Only three players have completed more successful nutmegs this season and all three play in the Premier League in Emmanuel Dennis, Raphinha and Jadon Sancho.
But it is interesting to see the 22-year-old has completed more than the highly-regarded Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Junior, who is considered one of the best young talents in world football.
Ronaldo who?
Despite not exactly being a regular in the Wolves side the Portuguese winger has been able to complete 31 successful dribbles in the Premier League this season (via Fbref).
And to put that statistic into context, the footballing legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, has only been able to complete 16 successful dribbles since making the return to Manchester United.
Ultimately, there is little comparison between the two Portuguese stars with Ronaldo scoring nine league goals this season, but it does show the Wolves ace does possess some attacking intent.
TIF Verdict…
It is reported the side from Molineux have the option to make Trincao’s loan permanent at the end of the campaign, however, there will certainly be questions over whether they will do so.
And there will certainly be questions over his attacking return this season having failed to find the back of the net or even provide an assist to date.
In previous seasons, the 22-year-old has shown some ability to prove a real threat in front of goal with the majority of his goals coming in the Portuguese top-flight.
With Pedro Neto back in action after a serious injury leaving him sidelined, competition for the spot on the wing has only increased.
