Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has been speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel about one key thing Bruno Lage has done very well at Wolves.

Prior to their last few results, which have seen them lose three of their last five league matches, Wolves were on an incredible run of form which had put them in the thick of a battle for the top four.

Will Wolves qualify for Europe?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

While recent results may have Wolves fans feeling slightly deflated, they should remember where they were at the end of last season and that Lage has got this side fighting for a European spot while key players such as Pedro Neto, Willy Boly and Hwang Hee-Chan have been out for extended periods of time.

Thomlinson, who spoke before Wolves’ defeat to West Ham, wanted to praise Lage for how well he’s managed the club’s injury problems.

“I really don’t think that’s spoken about enough, to be honest with you – Wolves’ injury problems and how good Bruno Lage has been at overcoming them.

“I think to lose Pedro Neto, who was definitely their outstanding player, really, for such an extended period of time, is not spoken about, really.

“Let’s not forget this is a Wolves squad that finished seventh consecutively prior to last season, so it’s pretty much of the same XI, really. If you look at it on paper, it’s probably eight of the same XI there, isn’t it.”

TIF Thoughts on Bruno Lage at Wolves…

When Lage arrived over the summer, many may have thought he was getting the job due to his nationality and connections with Jorge Mendes, as his managerial history was not great having only managed Benfica’s senior and B sides.

However, with Wolves just seven points off a spot in the Champions League at present and mixing it with some of the top clubs in England, it’s quite a surreal job he’s been able to do considering that last season Wolves finished 13th and were 22 points off the top four.
