Tottenham Hotspur outcast, Steven Bergwijn, has provided an encouraging two-word message on Instagram ahead of their next Premier League clash.

The Dutchman has struggled massively for consistent game time at the north London club across the number of different managers who have come and gone since he signed.

And on Thursday, the 24-year-old posted three images on Instagram of himself training as he promoted his sponsorship with the Adidas brand.

However, amid his struggles at Spurs, the caption with the images may encourage not only the fans but those around the club that he is working to develop his game: “Work hard,” he said.

Appearances under Antonio Conte have been hard to come by with just 133 minutes on the pitch across the 12 appearances he has made under the Italian.

And it may come as a surprise to some that he has not been given more game time after the stunning cameo against Leicester City which saw him score twice in stoppage time to seal all three points.

The Dutchman did come on against Middlesbrough during the week and should have actually got his name on the scoresheet just minutes after taking to the pitch.

However, there have been strong rumours linking him with a potential move back to the Netherlands with Ajax believed to be seriously interested in potentially signing him.

It is perhaps surprising the 24-year-old did not start on Tuesday against Boro given Son Heung-min has not exactly been at his best since returning from his recent injury.

And the game against Chris Wilder’s side proved to be one to forget for the South Korean who looked as if he could have done without playing at the Riverside Stadium.
