Antonio Conte has held a meeting behind the scenes with Daniel Levy following his fiery comments after the defeat against Burnley, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian insider was speaking on his YouTube channel, where he also claimed the meeting went well, with Conte wanting the club to turn their attention to the summer transfer window.

Do you think Conte will make it to the summer at Spurs?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Conte was left a frustrated figure during the week as he saw his side’s hopes of a top-four finish slip further away at the hands of a Burnley side fighting for their Premier League survival.

And the Italian manager had already made his thoughts known on how the north London club handled their business in the January market as Spurs saw more players depart than arrive.

There are still plenty of games for Spurs to turn around their 2021/22 campaign and Romano believes Conte already wants the club to focus on what could be a huge summer rebuild.

He said: “I’m told that Daniel Levy wanted to discuss with Antonio, as Antonio wanted to discuss Daniel Levy about the general situation, about the general feeling.

“Antonio Conte told Daniel Levy he has no intention to leave the club immediately, to resign immediately – is something that Antonio doesn’t want to do, it’s not part of his story to leave during the season.

“But he wants Tottenham to be immediately – in February, in March, in April, and not in July, or in August, but already, in these months – focused on the future.

“It means to work on the transfer market for summer to decide what kind of players should leave the club and what kind of players should be confirmed, what could be the targets on the market, if they could find some opportunities on [the] free-agents market.

“So Antonio wants Tottenham to be ready to change the situation – not to be passive, losing games and accepting what’s happening.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte’s future…

The Italian will have been hoping for more from the early stages of his time with the Lilywhites as they still find themselves chasing the Champions League spots after a recent run of poor results.

However, in terms of the speculation linking him with a potential early exit from Spurs, we think it would potentially look worse on the Italian if he was to leave before the end of the season than the club.

We have no doubt Conte could have done with more signings in the winter window, but there are well-publicised difficulties in dealing within the month of January.

And if Romano’s comments are to be believed, it seems Conte will be provided backing in the summer, so it would be an odd move from the Italian to walk away before seeing how the summer window transpires.

If the end of the summer window saw Spurs fail to deliver on these reported promises, then that is when we think the club would be responsible for Conte’s potential early departure.
