Image for Tottenham Hotspur: Image emerges on Twitter of Emerson Royal

Emerson Royal will have his head in his hands after seeing an image that has emerged on Twitter following Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat on Tuesday.

The Lilywhites suffered FA Cup defeat in extra time on Tuesday night, with the winning goal coming from some slack Spurs defending.

Was Emerson to blame for Boro's goal?

Youngster Josh Coburn provided Middlesbrough with the goal to see them through to the quarter-finals of the competition and an image from the build-up to the goal has highlighted the poor defending from Antonio Conte’s men.

Summer signing Emerson Royal is seen in the image playing the Boro goalscorer onside whilst the other four defenders find themselves chasing the ball.

It was certainly a night to forget for all of the Spurs players, with very few showing any signs of promise during the 120 minutes of action against the Championship outfit.

Conte brought Emerson on just before the end of the regular 90 minutes, with Matt Doherty starting the game as the right wing-back (via Transfermarkt).

However, the 23-year-old had a big role in the deciding goal which was noted by Alasdair Gold, who rated his brief cameo with a 3/10, and said (via football.london): “A poor showing from the Brazilian, contributing very little going forward and playing Coburn onside for Boro’s goal.”

After nailing down a consistent spot in the Spurs starting XI after signing in the summer, Emerson has seen Doherty come back into Conte’s plans recently with his game time affected.

And it is not just his defensive credentials that are under scrutiny, with the right-back providing just the one assist since arriving in the summer (via Transfermarkt).

With reports suggesting Conte has not been impressed with the Brazilian, his cameo display on Tuesday will not have helped his case for returning to the starting XI.

Barcelona saw Levy coming and pulled his pants down, then slapped his arse and to him to go on his way and be a good boy.
