Journalist Ryan McGinlay has vented his frustrations on Twitter at the display of Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate in their game on Wednesday night.

The Japanese star was among the starting XI at Parkhead as he marked his ninth appearance for the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership (via Transfermarkt).

Has Hatate's standards dropped recently?

Ange Postecoglou’s side came into the game at Celtic Park on the back of defeat in Europe and a frustrating 0-0 draw against Hibernian on the weekend.

But Hatate was not able to impress some on a night where the two shots he had both failed to hit the target as he also struggled defensively with no successful tackles to his name (via SofaScore).

The 24-year-old made an electric start to life in Glasgow after arriving in January with five-goal involvements in his first five league appearances (via Transfermarkt).

However, he has been unable to provide an assist or find the back of the net in the league since early February and it is clearly beginning to frustrate some:

“I love Hatate as much as the next person but he needs taken off. Looks seriously burned out,” McGinlay tweeted.

TIF Thoughts on McGinlay’s tweet…

It was certainly a frustrating night for Celtic on the whole until they were able to find the back of the net just before the hour mark and it was not Hatate’s best display for the Bhoys having lost the ball 11 times.

It is worth remembering how early the Japanese midfielder is into his Celtic career and it goes to show just how high he has set his standards.

Cameron Carter-Vickers eased the tension at Parkhead with a goal early in the second half, however, it would’ve been interesting to see if Hatate lasted beyond the 65th-minute had the deadlock not been broken.
