Tottenham Hotspur are expected to buy a striker in the summer transfer window to support their only senior striker in the squad, Harry Kane.

That is according to Alasdair Gold, who recently took part in a Reddit Q&A session, where he shared his expectations for Spurs to provide Kane with some backup.

Should Spurs loan Scarlett out?

And the reliable journalist’s claim comes just over a month after Antonio Conte’s wish to bring in a new striker over the January transfer window was failed to be met by the north London club.

Currently, Conte only has one senior striker in his squad, and 28-year-old Kane has fortunately been able to avoid any of the injury issues he typically picks up around the winter months of the season.

But with a potentially huge summer window ahead for the Tottenham board, Gold believes the north London club will seek a new striker.

Responding to a query surrounding their striker search, Gold suggested that while youngsters Dane Scarlett, Troy Parrott and Kion Etete will look to provide competition, another forward will be sourced by the club in the next transfer window.

He wrote: “There are huge hopes for Scarlett as long as he keeps his head down and keeps working hard. Parrott is having a really good season of development at MK Dons and keep an eye on Kion Etete, who is tearing it up at Cheltenham.

“I think Spurs will buy a striker though this summer to support Kane and it’s down to those three to fight it out to provide another option.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Spurs have now been without a backup striker to Kane since the end of last season, with on-loan Brazilian striker Carlos Vinicius not signed permanently at the end of the campaign.

The England striker had a slow start to his season, and although he is now firing on all cylinders, the lack of options at striker for Conte is almost unbelievable.

In games where Spurs have struggled recently such as Middlesbrough and Burnley, the only other striker Conte has been able to look to is the 17-year-old Dane Scarlett.

And although the youngster has shown a lot of promise in the youth sides, we feel Spurs need a more senior figure available to Conte when he is in need of a goal.
