Tony Scott has slammed Seamus Coleman on the All Together Now podcast, claiming he shouldn’t be near the first team.

Everton are currently second-bottom in the Premier League form table and a major reason for this atrocious run of form is their leaky defence, which has shipped 10 goals in their last three away league matches and 46 in total in the Premier League.

Will Everton be relegated?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Toffees skipper Coleman has been a regular this season, featuring 20 times in the league, and despite being 33 years old – the third-oldest player in the squad – the Republic of Ireland international has played the fourth-most minutes in the league, which is an obvious concern to Scott.

Scott claimed that Coleman should now be nowhere near the first team at Everton given his current form.

He said: “It’s absolutely criminal what’s happened in terms of recruitment and that’s what it boils down to, and I’ve got lots of sympathy for Frank Lampard because this is not on him.

“He’s inherited this group of defenders that just are not fit to wear the Everton shirt – none of them are. Coleman shouldn’t be anywhere near the team.”

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Everton’s captain will surely go down as one of the club’s best signings in recent times, considering that he cost them just £63,000 back in 2009 and has now racked up 373 appearances for the Toffees. However, it appears that the summer or even January – if not before – was the time to sign a replacement.

If Everton want to be doing more than fighting against relegation, they can’t be having a 33-year old full-back starting for them in the majority of games without producing on the pitch, but the fact Coleman does start is not a good sign for January signing Nathan Patterson, who’s only been trusted to play against non-league Boreham Wood since he arrived.
