Journalist Michael Bridge has claimed that Spurs could upgrade in the left-back department and noted how important that area of the pitch is.

Sergio Reguilon has been the more used option at left-back this season for Spurs when he has been fit, featuring 23 times in the Premier League whilst chipping in with two goals and three assists, according to Transfermarkt.

The Spanish ace has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur, with La Liga giants Barcelona seemingly being the main club interested in his signature.

Sky Sports journalist Bridge has highlighted to GIVEMESPORT how important the wing-back role is for Spurs and that they can do better than the current of players at the club.

“Spurs could probably do better in that department. It’s such a key position. You genuinely have to be as good going forward as you are at the back,” Bridge said.

Daniel Levy’s chance for redemption

Daniel Levy has been known in the past for not putting his hand in his pockets and investing in the squad, so by bringing in a big-name defender at left-back, and spending money, this could be a good start in terms of redeeming himself for the past.

Harry Kane was close to leaving in the summer, but a deal to Manchester City fell through. Levy could go a long way to convincing his star man of the long-term project in north London by making a big-money signing, and it could be enough to keep England’s captain at the club.

Sessegnon will be worried

Ryan Sessegnon was enjoying his most capped Premier League season for Spurs since signing from Fulham in 2017, although his injury in recent weeks has put a stop to that. He may be hoping that he can build on these performances when he comes back fit and cement himself in the side as a regular starter.

With the news that Spurs may be looking to sign a new left-back, this will be worrying news for the 21-year-old defender who could see his place in the side taken, and what message would that send to him and perhaps some of the club’s other most talented youngsters?

  • Tony Borg says:

Considering that is probably the strongest position in defence we have, Levy should prioritise a right back and two centre backs before he even considers a new left back, also another world class striker is needed more than a new left back.
