Tony Scott has slammed the signing of Anwar El Ghazi on the All Together Now podcast.

Everton were surprisingly active in the January transfer window, despite over the summer struggling with Financial Fair Play regulations and this saw them bring in five new recruits, although only one of them has started three or more league games.

Is El Ghazi Everton's worst ever signing?

One of the biggest flops for the Toffees though has to be Rafael Benitez loan signing El Ghazi with the Egyptian winger yet to start a single match for Everton, despite arriving on January 13th.

Scott can’t understand what happened in January that made Everton want to sign El Ghazi.

(9:29) “You look at that signing of El Ghazi and you’re going what on earth was all that about? It sums up the six years, there’s a winger that was bought that nobody wanted on loan that has taken a position up on loan where we could’ve got a grafter in midfielder or a centre back.”

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

The Dutch winger enjoyed a very successful season last term with Aston Villa netting 10 goals in the league, however this season he’d started just four league matches in the Premier League before being shipped out on loan.

It came around the same time Lucas Digne moved to Villa Park, which could explain why El Ghazi was given to Everton, but it appears to be an atrocious piece of business because he clearly can’t impress Lampard and also took up a valuable loan spot that the new manager couldn’t use in January.
