Club insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United will offer Angelo Ogbonna a new contract this summer.

As of this moment, the short-term future for the defender is full of uncertainty. Indeed, having hurt himself back in November – picking up a nasty anterior cruciate ligament injury against Liverpool – Ogbonna’s season looks in doubt.

And although he is working hard to get himself back to full fitness, there is no guarantee that the 33-year-old will play again this term.

Add to that, the fact that his contract is set to expire in the summer, and it’s easy to gauge how much doubt could surround him at the moment. However, while talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex has put an end to a few questions by stating that the current plan is to extend his deal for a while longer.

He said: “Obviously his contract’s expired – or will expire in the summer – but they are planning to give him a new deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Angelo Ogbonna and West Ham…

He may be getting on a bit now at 33 years of age, but if Ogbonna can come back strongly from this serious injury, he should have plenty to offer.

Indeed, the vastly experienced defender has won numerous trophies in Italy with Juventus and has played over 200 times for the Hammers – so his quality should not be doubted.

He was an integral part of David Moyes’ plans at the start of the season, and if Ex’s claim is true, it seems as though the manager still sees plenty of use for Ogbonna for the future, regardless of his recent fitness struggles.
