West Ham United star Declan Rice has expressed his delight after seeing teammate Angelo Ogbonna stepping up his recovery from injury.

Back in November, the Hammers defender suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in their 3-2 Premier League win against Liverpool.

Does Angelo Ogbonna deserve a new West Ham contract?

As a result, he has not played a single game since, but could yet feature before the end of the season. Indeed, in an attempt to get himself back to full fitness, it seems Ogbonna has been working hard in the gym.

He recently shared an Instagram video of him stepping up his rehab and included the caption: “Guess who’s back in the gym?”

It certainly left Rice buzzing, as he commented ‘Monstaaaaa’ in response to the post:

TIF Thoughts on Angelo Ogbonna and West Ham…

Despite Ogbonna being out for so long, Rice clearly hasn’t forgotten the value of his teammate. Indeed, before the setback, the defender had played in every Premier League game this season, only losing twice.

What could be motivating the 33-year-old to get back on the pitch and prove his fitness is the fact that his contract also runs out at the end of the current campaign.

With Rice cheering him on, however, it shows that he may still have a future in a West Ham shirt just yet. What’s more, if he can return from injury this season, he could potentially play a part in the club’s Europa League run, with the final taking place on 18th May.

Of course, for that to happen, the Hammers will have to get past Lyon first, before then facing Barcelona or Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-final.
