Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes stole the headlines on Thursday night in their latest victory in the Premier League, but journalist Ciaran Kelly has raised a potential injury doubt.

The Brazilian helped United on their way to an impressive comeback from 1-0 down to take all three points on the south coast, however, he was taken off after 67 minutes.

And Kelly noticed the 24-year-old wincing as he made way at St Mary’s for Sean Longstaff. Eddie Howe said after the game it was likely cramp, but he was not certain.

Howe said after the game: “I think it’s cramp – I’m not 100 per cent sure. His English is improving – but it’s not perfect. I asked if he had cramp and he nodded his head.”

The game on Thursday was the first time Bruno had started for the Toon since arriving and he certainly impressed with a 10/10 performance and the winning goal.

Meanwhile, Kelly tweeted: “Bruno wincing as he comes off with what looks like cramp after his first start in a while. Does not immediately go down the tunnel, which suggests it’s not serious, and instead takes seat on bench.”

TIF Thoughts on Kelly’s comments…

Newcastle fans will be hoping there is nothing more to this than cramp given he is so early in his Newcastle career and the impressive performance he put in against Southampton.

Not only would a potential injury to the Brazilian mean they could be without the midfielder for the weekend, but it would add to the recent injury picked up by Joelinton.

However, Howe seemed optimistic after the game that it was nothing serious, which will provide Newcastle fans with some confidence he will be able to play against Chelsea on Sunday.
