Dan Burn sent the Newcastle United fans wild on Thursday night as he put in a ‘meaty’ challenge in front of the away end.

That is according to journalist Matt O’Connor who was reporting from St Mary’s as Eddie Howe’s men looked to make it two wins from two against south-coast sides in the last week.

The Toon went into the game on an unbeaten run which stretched back to December in the Premier League with Howe’s side finally finding their feet.

It was another impressive showing from the 29-year-old who recorded two tackles, eight clearances and even provided Bruno Guimaraes with the assist for the winning goal (via SofaScore).

And it was apparent a moment in the opening stages of the game got the 3300 travelling supporters buzzing as Burn put in a crunching challenge right in front of them.

“Dan Burn makes a meaty tackle in front of an Isle of Wight Toon Army flag. There was much rejoicing,” tweeted O’Connor.

TIF Thoughts on O’Connor’s tweet…

We are not surprised to hear the January signing is getting the Newcastle fans going on the south coast given the impact he has made since signing.

The Toon’s improved form has coincided with the arrival of Burn and he has certainly helped to sure up Newcastle’s defence which has dramatically improved in recent months.

And it is apparent the local lad is becoming a fan favourite with footage emerging of him on the weekend as he celebrated their win against his former side with his family members in the crowd.
