Newcastle United suffered their first defeat in ten Premier League games on Sunday as they fell to a narrow defeat at Stamford Bridge amid some controversy.
Eddie Howe’s side had battled well for the entirety of the game, only to be undone late on by a moment of wizardry from Kai Havertz. His expert first touch allowed him the chance to poke the ball beyond Martin Dubravka to secure the points for the hosts.

Despite losing, the defence have been praised, in particular, club captain Jamaal Lascelles. Lee Ryder picked him out in his match ratings with a 7/10, justifying the rating with the following: “Has given the manager another big call to make in the next game with a tidy display.”
It’s been no secret the fans have been getting on the back of Lascelles, but that performance today was much more of what you expect to see from your captain going off Ryder’s comments. Giving the manager something to think about with his team selection.
