Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has been discussing Manchester United and the potential appointments of Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag.

With current boss Ralf Rangnick only going to be staying at Old Trafford until the end of the current campaign, a campaign that is slowly coming to an end and with Manchester United only left with a space in the top four to fight for, attention can start to turn to who will be the man in the dugout next season.

Manchester United have gone through seven men in the dugout either on a permanent or temporary basis since Sir Alex Ferguson left, so they’ll surely be hoping that this one will be the last manager they will have to name for quite some time.

Speaking on Sky Sports (0:12), Reddy claimed that the club have managed to narrow their search down to four names, and that it would be very likely that Pochettino and ten Hag were likely to be the frontrunners for the job as the search process goes on:

Manchester United fans, do you remember how many points you picked up in seasons gone by? Let's find out, starting with 2020/21

“The men they are doing due diligence on, Mauricio Pochettino, [Erik] ten Hag, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique. Now two of those names will stand out more than most, Pochettino and ten Hag, they are the favourites.

“We are told by senior sources that it would be a surprise if it didn’t come down to one of those two potentials to be the next man in charge at Old Trafford.”

Whilst both men are currently in a job, at Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax respectively, Pochettino’s position in France has come under scrutiny recently, with reports claiming that his employers have been looking for a replacement for him. Meanwhile it has also been claimed that ten Hag has announced that he will leave the Dutch side at the end of the season.

But whilst both men could become available, Pochettino should be the man that they pursue the hardest.

Pochettino is someone who knows how to reach the top four, having done so in four of the five seasons that he was in charge at Tottenham Hotspur, and can also make an impact straight away at a club, having done so during his brief time at Southampton and compiling a 66.6% win percentage during his time at PSG so far (via Transfermarkt).

And Manchester United, who currently sit 6th in the table and four points off 4th, need someone who can do both if they are to become serious challengers not only for the top four but also the top honours. Add to that the fact that Pochettino has experience in England, and it seems like he should be the front-runner of the two.
