Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard will be hoping to improve his squad in the summer transfer window with a ‘real splash’.

Steven Gerrard made bold statements in January when he signed Lucas Digne from Everton and former team-mate Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.

Coutinho has had an instant impact at the club since his return to the Premier League, having currently produced four goals and three assists in 10 league games.

However, the Villans will have to stump up the cash to buy him permanently, which is something that appears to be of interest to Steven Gerrard.

Pete O’Rourke has now dropped a rather exciting claim whilst speaking to GIVEMESPORT, as he believes that these types of signings could be a sign of things to come:

“We know Gerrard is a very ambitious manager and signed the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne in the last window. I’m sure he’ll be looking to go out again and make a real splash in the transfer window to improve the squad,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s comments…

Aston Villa have evidently backed their new manager in the January transfer window and the transfers have paid dividends, as before their two defeats in their recent Premier League games, they had won three on the bounce, whilst scoring nine goals and conceding none.

However, Lucas Digne has found himself on the sidelines due to injury which hasn’t helped their cause recently.

After a rejected £35 million bid in January from Aston Villa for Brighton & Hove Albion’s midfielder Yves Bissouma, there are already reports stating that Gerrard will go back in for his man in the summer transfer window, so perhaps this could be a part of this ‘real splash’ that’s been mooted.

However, in order for a real big splash to happen, perhaps Gerrard will look to get rid of players in order to make room, which was something he wasn’t afraid to do in January as Matt Targett left for Aston Villa on a loan deal.
