Leeds United are convinced they have picked the right man for the job in Jesse Marsch, with the Whites looking to the American as a long-term option.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking about the changes made at Leeds over the last few days on his Here We Go podcast.

Do you think Marsch will keep Leeds up?

No

The 48-year-old manager was announced as Marcelo Bielsa’s replacement on Monday and is believed to have held a light training session on Tuesday at Thorp Arch.

Marsch struggled during his spell in the German Bundesliga with RB Leipzig having only lasted 20 games in charge before being sacked.

However, Romano believes the Yorkshire side have faith in the American to be their long-term Bielsa replacement despite his struggles in his previous struggles in a major European league.

He said: “New Leeds manager with a long-term project. Let me say that is now official and confirmed, but it’s something that Leeds wanted to do [for] a long time, to prepare the future after Marcelo Bielsa.

“And Jesse Marsch is a manager they were following since Salzburg, then at Leipzig was not an easy moment for him, but now they’re convinced that they can build something important for the future together with Jesse Marsch.”

TIF Thoughts on Marsch’s appointment…

It was certainly a bold move for the Whites to part ways with Bielsa before the end of the season and it is apparent the recent heavy defeats were a big reason behind the decision being made.

However, there is now an awful lot of pressure on the American to maintain their Premier League status, with the Yorkshire club just two points above safety with a game extra played than 18th-placed Burnley.

And Marsch will have to do so with the same issues Bielsa was facing in terms of the injury problems Leeds are experiencing at the moment.

It is believed Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford may return soon, but they will need to hit the ground running with the Whites in need of some inspiration after a number of poor results recently.
