Leeds United’s appointment of Jesse Marsch will be a big boost to their hopes of signing Brenden Aaronson in the summer transfer window.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who was speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel following the appointment of the American manager.

Do you want Leeds to sign Aaronson?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Whites were linked heavily with RB Salzburg midfielder Aaronson in the January window and reportedly had a number of bids rejected by the Austrian outfit.

Aaronson played briefly under the 48-year-old during his early stages at the Austrian Bundesliga side last year, where he was able to show early signs of promise.

The 21-year-old made 25 appearances under Marsch across all competitions, when was able to provide seven goals and five assists – and Romano believes Marsch’s arrival will boost their chances of landing the midfielder in the summer.

Asked whether an Aaronson transfer was now more likely, Romano said: “My answer is yes. My answer is yes, because the relationship is great.

“Talking about Aaronson, they wanted him in January with Marcelo Bielsa and I’m sure they still want him and they will try for him in the summer.

“A lot will depend on if Leeds will stay in the Premier League or not, because I think Aaronson is a player for the Premier League, not for the Championship, to be honest.

“So this is why maybe it depends on Leeds’ final part of the season, but I’m sure that Jesse Marsch will help with [an] Aaronson deal, will help with transfers in general, because he will be so attractive for American players.”

TIF Thoughts on Aaronson to Leeds…

We do feel the arrival of Marsch at Elland Road could play a big role in potentially bringing Aaronson to Yorkshire in the summer given their previous at Salzburg, where Aaronson shone.

However, we do agree with Romano in thinking the American midfielder will have a keen eye on where Leeds finish in the Premier League table, with their potential relegation possibly being a huge factor.

Aaronson is playing frequently for Salzburg, who are still in this season’s Champions League, and we find it hard to see how a Championship club could attract a player away from playing in the elite European competition.

And if the Whites are able to maintain their top-flight status, they may see an influx of cash to spend if Raphinha is to say his goodbyes to Elland Road, following rumours regarding his future.
