Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about the transfer message Antonio Conte is telling the Tottenham Hotspur board on the FIVE YouTube channel.

Conte certainly didn’t hold back in his assessment of Tottenham’s transfer business, claiming in an interview with Sky Italy that the squad had been weakened after losing four important players – and he could well have a point, as since the window shut, Spurs have lost three games and won just two in the league.

Will Conte leave Spurs this summer?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Spurs only managed to bring in two new recruits in January in the form of Rodrigo Bentancur – who’s already picked up an injury – and Dejan Kulusevski, who’s hit the ground running with two goals and an assist in five league appearances. However, they both came on Deadline Day so Spurs missed out on having their quality throughout the January fixture list.

This is something Conte’s adamant that he doesn’t want to see happen again, as Romano spoke about.

He said: “The message from Antonio is: ‘I don’t want to see something like what happened in January that we signed players on 31st of January, on Deadline Day. We need to move now, we need to start building something now. Show me that we want to build the winning mentality, not just day by day on the training ground as I’m trying to do, but also with the board, reacting in the market and preparing the market in February, March and April, and not arriving on 20th August, signing a winger after losing out on Adama Traore and Luis Diaz.’

“This is the message from Antonio – let’s build together, but let’s start now; don’t lose time. We need to build something important, we need to fill the gap with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ potential summer transfer window plans…

If the Tottenham board are serious about wanting to back Conte and ensure that he has the tools necessary to implement a winning mentality and deliver silverware –  something he’s done at his three previous clubs – Daniel Levy has to sufficiently back him.

This is not a guarantee, though, given that it was clear in January that Conte wanted Adama Traore to be his new right wing-back, and after a month of negotiations and haggling, the Spaniard ended up at Barcelona and Spurs went without adding to the position, leaving Conte with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty – two players brought in under former managers.
