Danny Murphy has praised Declan Rice’s consistency for West Ham while speaking on Match of the Day 2.

West Ham managed to halt a poor run of form which saw them pick up one win in their last six matches when they edged out an in-form Aston Villa side 2-1 with Andriy Yarmolenko scoring the first.

However, while a lot of focus and praise was handed to the Ukrainian attacker for his bravery during this time, it was England international and West Ham captain Rice that stood out once again.

Murphy hailed how consistent Rice always is in midfield for West Ham and David Moyes during his analysis on Match of the Day 2.

(0:03) “West Ham just about edged it and this is one of the reasons why Declan Rice’s consistency is remarkable.

“Wrighty and I were laughing before about how many times we’ve done pieces on him because he’s so often their best player and you can’t ignore him.”

TIF Thoughts on Rice…

This season has seen Rice take another step forward in his development and leadership as he’s fully taken the captain’s armband off of Mark Noble know with the veteran having only started one league game all season, whereas his younger counterpart has only missed two league matches all season.

Rice leads the way on so many fronts for the Hammers in terms of touches, progressive carries, tackles won and completed passes showing he’s truly an all-round midfielder at just the age of 23-years old, making it no surprise as to why clubs such as Manchester United are interested in signing him.
