Everton chairman, Bill Kenwright, addressed his players during the week ahead of what proved to be a huge night on Thursday for the Toffees.

That is according to Everton correspondent for The Athletic, Greg O’Keeffe, who claimed Kenwright had spoke to the players on Wednesday ahead of their game against Newcastle United.

It proved to be three massive points for Frank Lampard’s side a Goodison Park as they ended what had been a torrid run of results.

The victory over the Toon did not move Everton up the table, however, it did close the gap on the sides above them as they still sit with two games in hand over Leeds United.

And O’Keeffe revealed a few people close to the side noted the talk from the chairman on Wednesday following the victory thanks to the late goal from Alex Iwobi:

“He addressed the players at the training ground on Wednesday in an attempt to inspire and lift their spirits ahead of the coming fight, and several close to the dressing room referenced that talk after this vital triumph,” O’Keeffe wrote for The Athletic.

TIF Thoughts on O’Keeffe’s comments…

With Everton really struggling going into the game on Thursday night, we think the players would have accepted any boost they could’ve got.

From an Everton point of view, hopefully, the win will be able to kick start the remainder of their season with 11 huge games ahead of them to maintain their top-flight status.

However, they do have an incredibly tough run-in ahead of them with five of the Premier League’s current top six still to play in their final 11 games.
