Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Tottenham Hotspur will look at centre-back Sven Botman in the summer as a potential transfer target.

The Italian was speaking on the latest episode of his Here We Go podcast following Tottenham’s third Premier League loss in a row to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Would Botman be a good signing for Spurs?

No

And with the January transfer failing to see Spurs land a centre-back – despite Antonio Conte’s reported wish – Romano believes the Lilywhites will definitely sign one in the summer.

Romano believes one of their main targets ahead of the summer window will be the Lille defender who was heavily linked with a potential switch to Newcastle United last month.

With the 22-year-old believed (via The Sun) to be allowed to exit the Ligue 1 side in the summer, Romano had the following to say on interest coming from north London:

(16:50) “A lot of interest around Europe, Tottenham are following him.”

“Talking about Tottenham, I wanted to say that Antonio Conte wants something fresh. Something new in the summer and they will go for a new centre-back 100%. So Tottenham will 100% sign a new centre-back.”

TIF Thoughts on Botman…

The Spurs defence has shown in recent weeks it is in need of some investment over the summer with no clean sheet to their name since New Year’s Day.

However, it is expected a number of clubs will be interested in the Dutch defender in the summer with AC Milan and Newcastle expected to launch their bids again.

It is believed Conte is looking for a left-sided centre-back having missed out in the January window and we think Botman could be a great addition to the Spurs squad.

Despite being just 22-years-old, the Dutchman has already racked up a lot of experience in the Lille side and has shown his potential over the last one-and-a-half seasons with the French side (via Transfermarkt).
