Reliable Arsenal journalist Charles Watts has claimed that the Gunners still hold an ‘interest’ in signing Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

In the winter window, Bruno Lage’s men saw some interesting incoming and departures. Most notably, Adama Traore was allowed to head off to Barcelona, while young winger Chiquinho arrived from Portuguese club Estoril Praia.

However, perhaps the best bit of business the club did was to keep Neves at Wolves for a little while longer. Indeed, towards the end of January, the Gunners were said to be considering a late move for the 24-year-old. In the end, though, no move came through and so the Portugal international will remain where he is for now.

Despite the window closing that does not necessarily bring an end to the Gunners’ interest. Indeed, while talking on his YouTube channel, Arsenal correspondent Watts said that he believes the desire to sign the player ‘remains’ and a deal could happen in the summer.

He explained (03:37): “You know, I’m pretty sure that the interest in Ruben Neves remains, and that could be something maybe that moves on in the summer.”

TIF thoughts on Ruben Neves and Wolves…

As things stand, Wolves look capable of playing European football next season – potentially in the Champions League – as they are currently seventh in the Premier League with games in hand to catch up on their rivals.

Will Wolves make the top four this season?

No

One of the keys to that success is Neves who has played in 21 of the club’s 23 league games, scoring twice and also claiming an assist. He likes to create many of Wolves’ attacks from deep and often links defence to attack, which is backed up by him averaging the most amount of passes per game in the Premier League, as well as the most amount of long balls with his wide array of passing often on display.

There should be no doubting the 24-year-old’s quality either. Indeed, when he was still a teenager at Porto, he was named as the youngest captain in Champions League history, at the age of just 18.

Taking all that into account, Arsenal’s interest should come as no surprise. Of course, many Wolves fans will no doubt be hoping they take their business elsewhere though.
