Wolves journalist Liam Keen has been discussing the current side and what they are missing following the debut of Chiquinho.

The only real bit of business that Wolves did this January was the signing of the 21-year-old, with Sang-bin Jeong and Hayao Kawabe both being loaned out to sister club Grasshoppers until the end of the season.

The winger came off the bench to make his debut for the club this past weekend in their FA Cup tie against Norwich City, but wasn’t able to make an impact as Bruno Lage’s side slipped to a 1-0 defeat.

Fitness issues plagued Silvio's career, but where did Wolves sign him from?

Writing in a column for The Express and Star, Keen, whilst praising the Portuguese winger for what he was able to bring to the table in his brief appearance, felt that things could have been better if the rest of the Wolves squad were on hand to help finish the chances that he created.

He said: “A handful of slick and skilful touches drew cheers from the Molineux crowd, while one or two impressive crosses put the ball on a plate for the strikers.

“Unfortunately, neither Fabio Silva or Raul Jimenez were in place to finish those chances as Wolves continued to cross the ball without any attacking intent in the box.

“That is a problem that needs addressing and Lage is well aware of it. He is keen to add another striker to the squad that offers that aerial threat – an old-fashioned target man that gives Wolves another option. Lage is yet to get that player, and for this season, at least, Wolves will need to manage without one.”

TIF Thoughts on Liam Keen’s comments about Chiquinho and Wolves…

Do you think Wolves will finish in a European spot?

It seems as though Chiquinho could bring something to the side, but just needs the other players to be on the same wavelength as him – or have the club bring in players that are more suited to his game, as Keen hints at.

And whilst Keen talks about the other players being adjusting to his style of play, it’s always possible as well that Chiquinho should be the one to adjust so that he can set them up in ways that are more suited to their styles.

It’s all going to be about adjusting for the early stages, and hopefully, as he gets more suited to playing with his new teammates (and vice-versa), they can work out a way to get the best out of not only him, but the rest of the team, and give Wolves that welcome boost that they need to push them over the line and qualify for Europe.
