The ever-reliable Alasdair Gold has revealed Cristian Romero should be available for Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend for their FA Cup clash.

Romero has been out of action since November having suffered a serious hamstring issue during his time with the Argentinian national side.

Should Romero start on Saturday?

Spurs return from the recent break for domestic football with a visit from Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

And ahead of the game, Romero has returned to training with the first team alongside Son Heung-min, who has also been sidelined due to injury.

Tottenham face three games in the space of eight days, with their cup clash quickly followed by two league games, and Gold believes Saturday could be an opportunity to bring Romero back into the fold.

He said: “Cristian Romero’s back, should hopefully be back this weekend. We’ll find out more on Friday, but he must be ready now. Conte’s excited about working with him properly now he’s going to build that defence around him.”

TIF Thoughts on Cristian Romero’s Spurs return…

Romero arrived in north London with a big reputation off the back of being named as the Serie A Defender of the Year for the 2020/21 campaign.

However, the Spurs backline fared pretty well without the Argentine, with their only real difficulties coming against Chelsea in the league and Carabao Cup (via Transfermarkt).

The term ‘like a new signing’ is used a lot, but with Romero, we do think his return could be just that for Spurs given they are yet to see the 23-year-old play more than five league games in a row since arriving.
